This dissertation seeks to understand how gender-based violence is constructed, represented, and unevenly distributed between male and female antagonists in the K-drama Vincenzo, considering the relationships between audiovisual narrative, social norms, and regimes of power. Based on a qualitative approach that combines Content Analysis and Film Analysis, the study examines how narrative and formal elements, such as framing, editing, and soundtrack, contribute to the production of meanings related to morality, transgression, and punishment. It is grounded on the hypothesis that female villainy is constructed as a more intolerable deviation from gender norms, being subjected to more intense, moralized, and spectacularized forms of punishment, while male villainy tends to be partially legitimized or strategically framed. In this sense, the trajectories of the antagonists Jang Jun Woo and Choi Myung Hee are analyzed, observing how their performances of power, their actions, and, above all, their outcomes reveal asymmetries in the ways violence is narratively authorized and applied. The research is grounded in an interdisciplinary theoretical framework that articulates gender studies, feminist theory, and audiovisual analysis, mobilizing concepts such as gender performativity, regimes of visibility, technologies of power, the male gaze, and the female gaze, in order to understand how the female body has been historically constructed as an object of control, desire, and punishment. At the same time, it situates K-Dramas within the broader context of the South Korean cultural industry and the Hallyu, understanding these productions as devices for the circulation of social and moral values on a transnational scale. The analysis shows that female villainy operates as a symbolic device that delineates the socially acceptable limits of women's action and autonomy, functioning as a narrative pedagogy that regulates femininity through violence. Thus, rather than merely examining characters, the dissertation demonstrates how audiovisual media participates in the production and legitimation of gender inequalities, revealing that punishment, far from being neutral, constitutes a central mechanism in maintaining symbolic and social hierarchies.

This dissertation seeks to understand, through the subjective accounts of four women living in Brazil’s Northern Region, the processes of aging from an intersectional perspective woven through the understanding of aging, gender, territory, and photography, which were used as the analytical categories. The path followed here is a cartographic journey; therefore, clues are created to guide the reader in navigating the spaces that were explored in greater depth. Drawing on a qualitative approach focused on examining intersectional elements, the study understands gender as a social construct. Consequently, there is not a single understanding of what it means to be a woman, but rather multiple forms of womanhood that inhabit this space. Likewise, cartography permeates the entire narrative; thus, the researcher does not assume merely a role of data collection, but also one of producing the data presented here. The research was developed based on a socio-geographical framework. In this sense, the women whose accounts form the basis of the study are all over 60 years of age, thereby contributing perspectives on old age. Accordingly, the ways in which each participant understands her own subjectivity and relates to the continuous passage of time were analyzed. The territory investigated here is not limited to the geographical space inhabited by these women, but also encompasses the construction of meaning through which this place permeates the corporeality of each participant. To build this work, an imagetic perspective was also employed; that is, in addition to the oral narratives that shape this knowledge, there are visual narratives—photographs produced by the researcher—that map this aging process onto the skin itself. The researcher-artist materializes the study through a multidisciplinary practice in which art serves as a mode of knowledge production. In this regard, it was possible to understand that although the participants recount their experiences while sharing the same territory, there are singularities that belong to their individual subjectivities, as well as points of convergence that contribute to the understanding of old age in Rondônia. In other words, this research does not propose thinking about old age from an external perspective, but rather from the ways in which aging in this place is shaped by lived experiences and affective encounters.

Resumen Espectáculo

This dissertation investigates the cultural phenomenon of noiadance in Porto Velho (RO), analyzing it as a manifestation of electronic music that, although stigmatized by hegemonic discourse under the pejorative label “junkie music”, is re-signified by subjects from the urban periphery as a powerful marker of identity and (r)existence. Grounded in Foucauldian Discourse Analysis (Michel Foucault) and informed by Cultural Studies and Latin American mediation theory, in direct dialogue with Stuart Hall, Néstor García Canclini, and Jesús Martín-Barbero, the analysis examines how this genre operates as both a cultural practice and a discursive network. Through a netnographic mapping based on the work of Robert Kozinets, conducted in the comment section of the “Canal Remix” YouTube channel, the research investigates how the sonic and linguistic materiality of the scene articulates collective memory, territorialities, and identity. The dissertation seeks to understand the conditions of emergence, circulation, and persistence of these statements, proposing a methodological and analytical shift from the imposition of social stigma to the constitution of a technology of subjectivation. Finally, the study finds that noiadance is not limited to a musical subgenre but functions as a legitimate form of knowledge that validates and preserves the history of a segment of Porto Velho’s population, resisting the erasure imposed by official narratives of urban and regional development.

This research investigates the BR-364 highway as a communicational artifact in the Amazon region of Rondônia, based on the theoretical understanding, grounded in Harold Innis, that road infrastructures operate as means of communication with a spatial bias. The study's general objective was to analyze the BR-364 as a means of communication, investigating its symbolic, territorial, and discursive dimensions through mediations expressed in official documents, journalistic narratives (2015-2025), and social media posts. The methodology adopted was qualitative, of an interpretative and critical nature, combining historical documentary analysis and critical discourse analysis (Fairclough). The theoretical framework articulated three pillars: the Political Economy of Communication from a spatial perspective (Innis, 2008), Cultural Mediations (Martín-Barbero, 2001), Critical Geography with technique as ideology (Santos, 2002), and Amazonian geopolitics (Becker 2004; 2005). The main results indicate that the BR-364 highway is discursively represented as the "main logistics corridor" for grain transportation, naturalizing its subordination to the interests of export-oriented agribusiness, enveloped in a fetishized celebration of technology (asphalt, machinery, kilometers built); modalizations of certainty about future benefits; silencing of dissenting voices; construction of selective memory that opposes a past of "pain" (public management) to a future of "hope" (private management); and an appeal to progress as an absolute value. It is concluded that the BR-364 constitutes a total communicational artifact, whose meanings are permanently produced and contested at the confluence between technical materiality, the geopolitics of accumulation, and cultural mediations.
