THE WAJURU OF PORTO ROLIM DE MOURA DO GUAPORÉ AND THE SURROUNDING CONFLICTS
INDIAN PEOPLE; AMAZON; AGRARIAN CONFLICT; PRESERVATION;RONDÔNIA.
Porto Rolim de Moura do Guaporé, is located on the Mequéns River and is a district belonging to the municipality of Alta Floresta D´Oeste, located in the interior of the State of Rondônia. The formation and history of this space was due to processes of colonization of the Amazon that brought together different ethnic groups, indigenous people, quilombolas, rubber tappers, Bolivians, settlers and squatters. Indigenous and non-indigenous people live in the locality, living and coexisting in the same territory, subject to intense territorial disputes. This multi-ethnic coexistence is extremely conflictual. The indigenous peoples of the Wajuru ethnic group face an intense struggle in this space for environmental protection, for the preservation of their historical cultural heritage and demarcation of their territory, which is an ancient demand, historically built through the militancy and political protagonism of the indigenous peoples who live there, since they have always lived under the threat of losing their territory. We will deal with the topic from a present-day historical perspective, whose main interest is to report the situation experienced by the Wajuru people in the face of constant threats of invasion of their lands and the surrounding conflicts.
