SUMMARY:

The objective of this proposal is to investigate the qualification of the process of sociability that promotes Rondonian Masonry, taking as an empirical cut the social profile of its maximum leaders at the state level, namely its grand masters, as well as its deputies. Generally speaking, it is claimed that Masonry is politically influential in numerous countries. In spite of the need for greater consideration of this perception, since one cannot automatically transfer from the political influence of many Freemasons as citizens to the influence of the Masonic Order, there is no doubt that it has effectively participated, as a politically influential institution, in various moments of our History. However, as a superficial reading indicates, this influence has declined in the political sphere over time, leaving the institution influential at the social level. The object of the research is to contribute to an analysis of the penetration of Masonry in the various social segments of the state and how this insertion draws its social profile. If Grand Masters are elected for their leadership in Masonry, that leadership must be the result of some form of social or political prestige external to the order, some prestige derived from the leader's own activity within the Order, or a combination of both. The combination of these elements is not simple. Take the case of the senator for Roraima, Mozarildo Cavalcante. Holder of the mandate of senator of the Republic, he was a candidate for Grand Master General of the Grand Orient of Brazil, one of the Brazilian Masonic powers of national scope. He has run four times for the grand master's degree of the order since 1993, and has lost all four elections, despite being an active Freemason and holding positions within the order and holding positions of power in society. Thus, if in the past the general leadership of Brazilian Masonry was handed over to men of great political or social prestige, such as José Bonifácio de Andrada, D. Pedro II and Luiz Alves de Lima e Silva, over time, and with the fall of the political influence of the order, the cabal for the choice of its grand masters became more complex. The history of Masonry in Rondonian soil is confused even with the initial years of existence of the city of Porto Velho. To read these transformations, it is necessary to consult bibliographies that recorded the empirical processes of constitution of order in this part of the Amazon, a period in which almost everything was yet to be built along the lines of what is called the pioneer front and, later, the expansion front. Finally, free masons from almost all regions of Brazil actively participated in the political life of this part of the Amazon region.
