Expeditionaries in the Amazon? The role of Soldados da Borracha in the context of the II World War.
Soldados da Borracha. Amazon. II World War. War Effort
This research in question aims to present the trajectory of citizens called soldados da borracha (rubber soldiers) as war fighters from enlistment to tragic social oblivion, which persists to this day. The recruitment of these individuals was from 1942 to 1945. The importance of soldados da borracha to the war effort alongside the Allies is comparable to the soldiers of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force who went to fight in Italian territory. Not only the Getulista government - which broke several promises made to soldiers who fought in the Amazon rainforest - but also Brazilian society itself forgot and did not give due value to the rubber heroes, whose efforts kept the Allied war machines running until total victory.
