SUMMARY:

The present research aimed to investigate the conceptions expressed by teachers who teach Mathematics regarding continuing education promoted by the Municipal Department of Education of Ji-Paraná (SEMED/JP), in the year 2021, with regard to meeting the training needs of teaching performance in Youth and Adult Education (EJA). With regard to the investigation methodology, it was a research of an interpretative qualitative nature, involving 05 (five) teachers from the municipal public teaching network of Ji-Paraná/RO as research participants. As instruments for the production/data collection, the research resorted to a characterization questionnaire and interviews with semi-structured questions with the research participants. In terms of theoretical contributions of the research methodology, it was supported by: Bogdan and Biklen (1982; 1994); Borba and Araújo, (2012); Flick and Steinke (2000); Fiorentini and Lorenzato (2012); Gil (1999); and Lüdke and André (1986). As theoretical contributions that supported the research, it was supported by: Di Pierro (1994; 2006); Fonseca (2005); Imbernón (2010; 2011); Machado (2000; 2008); Moura (2009); Nóvoa (1995; 2002; 2009); Porcaro (2011); Soares (2006; 2008); Soares and Pedroso (2013; 2016) and in the legal regulations of Brazil (2000; 2015; 2019). Among the results obtained with the research, these demonstrate that the continued teacher training promoted by SEMED/JP aimed at the elaboration of an activities notebook for the EJA classes attended by three schools of the municipal public network; and which had as training content aspects about the history of EJA, characteristics and particularities of the EJA public and the approach to research on EJA. It was also evident, from the testimonies of the teachers participating in the research, that the aforementioned continuing education took place through face-to-face and online meetings (during the Covid 19 pandemic period) in schools and in the auditorium of the SEMED/JP headquarters, involving conversations and planning circles among EJA professors at SEMED/JP, and lectures given by external guests, such as professors and master's students from the Federal University of Rondônia. In addition, research data show that continuing education dealt with methodological issues aimed at meeting the specificities of EJA, above all, trying to discuss practices in the classroom of teachers who teach Mathematics in this modality of Basic Education. Finally, it is understood that this research can contribute to the field of Mathematics Education for Young People and Adults, especially regarding the continuing education of teachers who teach Mathematics in EJA, and also encourage discussions inherent to this theme.
