SUMMARY:

This research aims to understand the perceptions of mathematics teachers who work in state schools in Pimenta Bueno (RO) about gender and sexuality and their relationship with mathematics education. For the theoretical basis, we used authors from the fields of Mathematics Education and Gender and Sexuality Studies. To carry out the study, we adopted a qualitative approach with technical procedures of participant research, using a questionnaire, a field diary and the Focus Group technique to produce the data. A total of six mathematics teachers from the state school system in Pimenta Bueno (RO) took part in the study, including the researcher herself. The study is still underway and the analysis of its results will be done by establishing thematic axes, a technique widely used in the context of the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education (PPGEM) at the Federal University of Rondônia. So far, the development of the research has allowed us to come into contact with various studies produced in the last decade that are dedicated to issues that permeate Mathematics Education, such as the exclusion of minority groups, social injustices, among others. This approach, known as Critical Mathematics Education, has sparked debates on gender and sexuality issues in math classes, opening up debates and research that help to break down patterns historically established by society as "normal". In addition, we have already established a dialog with the research participants and applied the questionnaire to draw up the group's profile. The next phase will be the focus groups and the analysis of the respective results will be presented in the final version of the dissertation, at the defense panel, which will be crucial to deepening the understanding of how the teachers participating in the research perceive gender and sexuality issues and their relationship with Mathematics Education. We hope that the final results will help to develop strategies that promote a more inclusive and equitable mathematics education.
