SUMMARY:

This research deals with the beginning of teaching in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) by teachers who teach Mathematics, having as a problematic question: What are the perceptions of teachers who teach Mathematics about their beginning of their teaching career in the specific context of Youth and Adult Education (EJA)? And, therefore, its general objective is: To analyze the perceptions of teachers who teach Mathematics about their beginning of their teaching career in the specific context of Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Its theoretical basis emphasizes aspects of EJA and the teaching of Mathematics in this teaching modality, mainly from the studies of Gadotti (2008), Fonseca (2012) and Jardilino and Araújo (2014), and in the National Curricular Guidelines for EJA (Brazil, 2000) and in the Curricular Proposal for EJA (Brazil, 2002). Furthermore, its theoretical foundation focuses on elements about the training and performance of EJA teachers and the beginning of the teaching career, based on Huberman (1995), Arroyo (2006) and Tardif (2014). Methodologically, the research has a qualitative approach and consists of field research, based on Bogdan and Biklen (1994), Fiorentini and Lorenzato (2012), and Severino (2007); with the participation of three teachers who teach Mathematics in EJA with up to five years of teaching experience, teaching Mathematics in classes of this modality of Basic Education in public schools in the municipality of Ji-Paraná and region. For data production, a characterization questionnaire with objective questions was applied in order to outline the profile of the research participants; and semi-structured interviews were conducted with these participants. For the analysis and discussion of the data, this research will use the interpretative perspective of qualitative research, considering that we are in the process of systematizing and analyzing the data, with the version of this dissertation being preliminary for the purposes of the qualification exam. At the end of this research, we hope to contribute with reflections on EJA, aiming at improvements in teaching and the search for strategies to face possible difficulties and challenges faced by teachers who teach Mathematics in this modality, especially those who are beginning to teach in this context.
