From the creation to the closing of the Magisterium course in Presidente Médici-RO (1981-2001): a history of teacher education for teaching Mathematics in the first years of basic schooling

SUMMARY:

This work aims to build a story about the Magisterium Course, in the city of Presidente Médici-RO, with a specific look at the training to teach mathematics in the first years of basic schooling. This is a research in the field of History of Mathematics Education under the methodological approach of Oral History, seeking to understand the formation for teaching mathematics from the narratives of those who experienced this process. For this construction, interviews were carried out and other instruments for data collection and analysis were also used, such as: written documents, school notebooks and photographs. Among other scholars, we draw on Bloch (2001) and Le Goff (2003) to support the writing of historiography, Garnica (2004), Cury (2011) and Meihy and Holanda (2019) for the understanding of oral history, in Garnica and Souza (2012) to understand the History of Mathematics Education. For local history, we use Lima (1996) and Moreira (2004) as a basis. The adopted methodology seeks to answer the following question: How were the trajectories of the Teaching Course in Presidente Médici-RO historically constituted, more specifically with regard to training to teach mathematics in the first years of basic schooling? From the data collected so far, it is possible to infer that the history of teacher education that took place nationally reflected in history locally, as the process of implementing courses for teacher education are consequences of public policies implemented throughout the country. and that they had an experiential re-reading in each place where it was installed. The data also indicate the impact of the course on the educational context of the municipality, where, in 20 years, around 420 professionals were qualified to teach in primary education.
