A preparation at the beginning, before the start. Would that be possible? A preparation, packing the traveling backpack, essentials and the will to travel an itinerary, like a pilgrimage, attentive gazes, in silence, thoughts lulled by childhood, children small children experience, the ways of seeing, listening and felling the world of childhood. An intense journey! The writings are an invitation and a unique cartography of a researcher on her journey, in her wanderings in the company of 19 five-year-old children in a Pre-II class at a center for Early Childhood Education, enjoying, appreciating, listening to, watching film and photographic images being produced by the children using a cell phone, in meetings, landing in the various spaces of the institution. The research experience takes place in the interactions and experiences in the children’s daily lives, on a path indicated by the child’s step slow, short, small, soft, close, watered by literatures from the Philosophy of Difference, cartography, research experience and the power of the child, of childhood. The walk marked by the first steps, landings and great encounters on different routes, trails, recesses, crevices, shortcuts, wide, open, narrow, steep roads and quiet plains like fresh mornings, invigorating breezes, fresh air, birdsong, crystal clear water, smells, many smells, the most varied, loaded with memories. Images, voices, reactions, expressions, speech, shouts, laughter, pauses, silences and the mathematics that happens, inspired and motivated an unarmed reading, without judgment of value, of right and wrong, but of strength, the power of childhood as a place of openness, inventiveness, experiences and affectations that provoke a desire to understand a little more about childhood and children, about us, about education, about experience, about a trajectory full of discoveries.
