CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES IN TEACHING MATHEMATICS IN THE EARLY YEARS OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION: A STUDY ON THE OBSTACLES FACED BY PEDAGOGUES

This dissertation investigates the challenges faced by educators in teaching mathematics in the early years of elementary school, seeking to understand how initial training influences their teaching practice. The research draws on the author's personal experiences with difficulties in learning mathematics, reflecting on the educational gaps and their consequences for pedagogical practice. The research is guided by a qualitative approach, anchored in the theoretical framework of the Semantic Fields Model (SFM), proposed by Romulo Campos Lins. The study focuses on the reality of teachers working in grades 1-5 at the Professora Dinalmir Ferreira Barros de Lisboa public school in the municipality of Ji-Parana, Rondonia. It analyzes how these professionals mobilize knowledge and legitimacy to teach mathematics, the obstacles they face, and the strategies adopted. The research engages with the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and teacher training policies, highlighting the mismatch between curricular requirements and the training received.
