This ongoing research aims to investigate the characteristics of research in Mathematics Education in Early Childhood Education and the early years of Elementary School defended in stricto sensu postgraduate programs in the areas of Teaching and Education in the state of Rondonia, from 2010 to 2025. To achieve this purpose, the research outlines the following specific objectives: i) To survey theses and dissertations in Mathematics Education in Early Childhood Education and the early years of Elementary School defended in stricto sensu postgraduate programs in the areas of Teaching and Education in the state of Rondonia, from 2010 to 2025; ii) To map the indicative aspects of the theses and dissertations raised in relation to: authorship and research supervision, year of defense, academic title, institution, postgraduate program and geographic distribution; iii) To examine in these theses and dissertations: research problems and objectives, thematic focus, theoretical contributions, methodology and methodological research procedures; iv) To analyze the main considerations of these theses and dissertations regarding their contributions and gaps in the mathematics teaching-learning process in early childhood education and the early years of elementary school. In terms of methodological procedures, the research adopts a qualitative approach of an exploratory and bibliographic nature, characterizing it as a state-of-the-art study. The corpus of analysis consists of dissertations defended in stricto sensu graduate programs in Teaching and Education based in the state of Rondonia, namely: the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education (PPGEM), the Graduate Program in Natural Sciences Education (PGECN), the Graduate Program in School Education (PPGEEProf), and the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE), all affiliated with the Federal University of Rondonia (UNIR). Data organization and analysis are based on cataloging and interpretative analysis, with the subsequent construction of categories. The theoretical framework for this research is based on the field of Mathematics Education, defined by its branches and trends; and studies anchored in Early Childhood Education and the early years of Elementary School, drawing on scholars and researchers who advocate for each of these foundations. It should be noted that the research is still ongoing, with its effective completion scheduled for February of next year. It is hoped that the research will contribute to the field of Mathematics Education, established as a field of profound relevance for improving the teaching-learning process of Mathematics, especially by contributing to discussions, reflections, and the expansion of knowledge production regarding this process in the stages of Basic Education related to Early Childhood Education and the early years of Elementary School, based on research focused on these aspects in the context of stricto sensu graduate programs in the state of Rondonia. Furthermore, considering that state-of-the-art studies are essential for mapping the identity and direction of a field of knowledge, this research is also part of this movement.
