SUMMARY:

The present study proposes an analysis of the incorporation of Financial Education in Upper Secondary Education, focusing on official documents and textbooks used in the state of Rondônia. Considering that Upper Secondary Education represents a crucial stage for the integral development of students, as established by the Brazilian National Common Curricular Base (BNCC, 2018), this phase is understood as strategic for addressing themes such as Financial Education. This topic, by being directly related to Mathematics Education and other fields of knowledge, provides important support for the development of autonomy, responsibility, and critical awareness among young people in relation to everyday economic decisions.The investigation is based on the assumption that Financial Education, although recent as a structured component of the school curriculum, has gained prominence due to its social and formative relevance. To this end, the research adopts a documentary analysis methodology, grounded in a theoretical review of educational legislation, academic studies that engage with the research theme, and pedagogical materials, such as textbooks. The main objective is to understand how this theme has been consolidated within Brazilian educational policies, especially after the approval of the BNCC, and how this process is reflected in academic productions, curricula, and adopted textbooks, particularly in the state of Rondônia. It is expected that, by identifying the concepts, objectives, methodologies, and gaps present in these documents, it will be possible to highlight advances, challenges, and opportunities for improvement in the education of Upper Secondary Education students. Finally, the study is also grounded in the perspective of Critical Mathematics Education, drawing on authors such as Ole Skovsmose, who emphasizes the importance of a critical curriculum connected to the learners’ reality, as well as Ubiratan D’Ambrosio and Paulo Freire, who advocate education as an emancipatory practice that values popular knowledge and cultural context.
