Financial Education. BNCC. Teachers who Teach Mathematics.
This research aims to analyze the perceptions of mathematics teachers in the early years of elementary school in public schools in Ji-Parana (RO) in relation to financial education in light of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). The theoretical contribution is based on documents and authors in the area of Mathematics Education, such as the BNCC (Brazil, 2017), Skovsmose (2014), D'Ambrosio (2012), D'Aquino (2012), Amuri (2017), Rassier (2018), Nigro (2018), Cerbasi (2019), Mira (2023). Methodologically, the research has a qualitative, field-type approach. Five teachers from the five largest municipal schools in JiParana (RO) participated in the research, one from each institution. The questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were used as data production instruments, and data analysis is being carried out through the establishment of thematic axes. We have now completed the field research and are analyzing the data produced. The preliminary results have identified negative and positive points in the BNCC, since the inclusion of financial education in a transversal manner in the basic education curriculum represents a positive point. However, in the area of mathematics in the initial years of elementary school, which is the focus of this research, we found that it was done superficially, considering that, of the five thematic units provided for in the document, only numbers and quantities and measurements are linked exclusively to the content. Therefore, the critical inclusion of the theme, transversal to all thematic units, aiming at practical application in the context of students' lives, is the responsibility of each teacher's interest and motivation. This is a worrying factor, since there is no guarantee that this will happen, especially if this professional does not feel sufficiently prepared to address the topic of financial education. It is expected that this work will contribute to supporting the development of other studies related to the topic, as well as fostering debates and reflections on the promotion of financial education in the training process of students in the initial years of Elementary School and, especially, in the training of teachers who teach mathematics.
