FROM ANONYMITY TO HISTORICAL RECORD: mathematics teaching at EEEFM Professor Jose Francisco dos Santos from Ji-Parana in the decades (1970-1990)
History of Mathematics Education; Teacher training; Teaching and learning mathematics. The present work is the result of a master's research that is part of the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education (PPGEM). It emerged after readings in the field of historiography and in discussions with the Research Group in the History of Mathematics Education of Rondonia (GHEMAT-RO), leading to reflection on the author's personal life story that is intertwined with the history of the State School of Elementary and Secondary Education (EEEFM) Professor Jose Francisco dos Santos, located in the municipality of Ji-Parana/RO. Its main objective is to understand how the teaching of Mathematics occurred during the decades from 1970 to 1990 in this school institution. The time frame is limited to the emergence of the institution until the end of the 1990s, which coincides with the implementation of LDB No. 9.394/96, evidencing Mathematics Education (EM) in this period. The research is situated in the field of History of Mathematics Education (HEM) with a methodological approach to Oral History, a source built from documents and the narratives of nine eyewitnesses: three teachers who taught Mathematics, three graduate students, an administrative technician, a person from the community and the daughter of the teacher who was honored and had his name put on the school. For the investigation, official documents, photographs and newspapers, among others, were analyzed. Its research question is: how did the teaching and learning of Mathematics occur at the Professor Jose Francisco dos Santos School during the 1970s and 1990s? The theoretical and methodological bases are based on authors such as Le Goff (1990), Bloch (2001) and Rusen (2007), who carried out studies addressing some methodological techniques for historiographical research, in addition to Fiorentini (1995), Valente (2007), Garnica and Souza (2012) and Fiorentini and Lorenzato (2012), with investigations in the field of HEM. Among the results, it can be highlighted that the teaching of Mathematics took place in different ways, methodologically developed according to according to the life experiences of teaching professionals who faced challenges in teaching to an audience that experienced financial difficulties and in a school with a lack of infrastructure and didactic resources. The textbook was a resource in evidence especially in the 1980s and 1990s, when teachers followed a sequence of exercises prioritizing training for problem solving. Thus, in the midst of advances and stumbling blocks, teaching took place under the influence of technicist and constructivist tendencies. The present research leads to the reflection that many stories are anonymous and lack investigations to bring to light a fraction of this wealth hidden in time, contributing greatly to the construction of the history of education in the municipality of Ji-Parana/RO.
