"And what do I do with these numbers?" Mathematics in the initial training of pedagogues at the Federal University of Rondônia, Ji-Paraná campus.
Pedagogy. Mathematics. Initial teacher training
Considering the initial training of pedagogues regarding mathematics, this research aims to analyze the training for mathematics teaching offered to students of the Pedagogy course at the Federal University of Rondônia (UNIR), Ji-Paraná campus. The study's approach is qualitative and classified as Field Research. The predominant theoretical framework was constituted by authors who investigate the initial training of pedagogues for mathematics teaching, including Curi (2004, 2005, 2011), Gatti (2009, 2019), Nacarato and Paiva (2006), Fiorentini (2002, 2003), among others. Data were produced through the analysis of documentary sources and the application of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Fifteen students from the eighth and ninth periods of the investigated course participated in the research. The research was developed with the analysis of the Pedagogical Projects of the Course since its implementation, and in the current document, there was a reduction of mandatory curricular components in the mathematics area, leaving only one, which in the participants' view is insufficient to prepare them to teach mathematics in the early years of elementary school. Considering that they have had a conflicted relationship with mathematics since basic education and that in their views, they will finish the course without solving this problem. The students made several suggestions for the course such as: increasing curricular components focused on mathematics, partnership with the Mathematics course to offer leveling courses, partnerships with schools for more internships focused on the practice of mathematics in the classroom, among others. With this research, we hope to contribute to the students of the Pedagogy course at UNIR, Ji-Paraná campus, finishing the course with the ability to take on a classroom without fear and insecurity in the area of mathematics and, consequently, with a more solid and quality education.
