The 1980s in Rondonia are marked by several occasions and transformations, and one of them is the transition from the former Federal Territory of Rondonia to the State of Rondonia, ahead of the new State of the Federation according to the Federal Government of the time would be in the administration of Governor Colonel Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira, who fought for the work of structuring the State of Rondonia, including one of his achievements was the paving of BR-364, in which with the inauguration party of the same, an access cloverleaf would be implemented in the capital Porto Velho, and this cloverleaf would be a square, with an artistic mural that would serve as a calling card for the capital city of the State of Rondonia, the name of this mural is called Monument to the Pioneers, which is a work designed by according to Helvia Reis, this monument consists of four concrete slabs, each with eight engravings on its front and back walls. The objective of this work is to analyze the monument itself, its engravings, and their meanings. The methods established herein are documentary research through journalistic sources in search of foundations related to the monument; bibliographic research in search of works related to the research subject; field research in search of the object itself and its mutations; iconographic research in analyzing interpretations of the images carved into the monument; and photographic research in favor of acquiring the monument's image.
