SUMMARY:

The overall objective of this study is to analyze the historical and cultural impacts caused by the forced migration that occurred with the implementation of the Jirau hydroelectric plant, as well as to understand how this displacement interfered with the maintenance of the cultural identity of the individuals relocated from the Mutum Paraná community. To achieve this objective, we listed the following specific objectives: to analyze how the Jirau plant was implemented and how the migration of the Mutum Paraná population occurred; to identify the social impacts of the implementation of the Jirau plant; and to learn about the relocated community and aspects of its cultural memory. The research problem sought to answer the following questions: What were the historical and cultural impacts caused by the forced migration that occurred with the implementation of the Jirau hydroelectric plant? And how did this displacement interfere with the cultural identity of the individuals relocated from the Mutum Paraná community? To achieve the objectives and answer the research questions, we used field research as our methodology, working with the Nova Mutum Paraná community and the Jirau hydroelectric plant, both located in the municipality of Porto Velho.
