Peruvian Migrant Women: Memories and Experiences Migratory in Rio Branco-Acre (2000-2025)
Peruvian women. Memories. Migratory experiences. Rio Branco-Acre. Peruvian migration.
The state of Acre is the scene of several migrations; this work studies Peruvian migration. This dissertation aims to understand the migratory experiences of Peruvian women to Rio Branco (AC), in the period corresponding to the years 2000 to 2025. The theoretical basis uses conceptual dimensions on the "History of Women" (Colling, 2004; Vaquinhas, 2019), "Migrant Women" (Oliveira, 2019) and the "Art of Listening" (Portelli, 2016). The methodological approach consisted of descriptive research with a qualitative approach (Gil, 2019). Data collection was obtained from thematic interviews (Alberti, 2004) with the aforementioned historical agents. The study had the participation of four collaborators. Among the main results, it is noteworthy that migration to Acre occurred during the first and second decades of the 2000s. The analysis of the narratives revealed that the socioeconomic profile of the interviewees is heterogeneous: the age range, self-declared ethnic-racial identity, religions, and level of education were diverse, with a predominance of self-employment. It was analyzed that the motivations for migrating were varied, including the desire for liberation and rupture with the society of origin, maintenance of affective ties, and student exchange. The migratory routes proved to be distinct, showing that Acre was not necessarily the first destination. Among the main challenges, they mentioned the language barrier and xenophobia.
