Over the last few decades, the international debate on work has shifted from an exclusive association between labor and income toward recognizing work as a fundamental dimension of human dignity. Within this context, the International Labour Organization (ILO) introduced the concept of Decent Work in 1999, establishing a normative framework organized around twelve analytical dimensions. In Brazil, this concept is operationalized, among other instruments, through the SmartLab Platform, a joint initiative of the Labour Prosecution Office (MPT) and the ILO Office for Brazil. In 2025, SmartLab celebrated its tenth anniversary under the theme "Data-Driven Promotion of Decent Work", bringing together five thematic observatories and the Municipal Decent Work Indicators System (SIMTD), which is based on data from the Brazilian Demographic Census (IBGE) and formal administrative records (RAIS, CAGED, CAT, eSocial, and the labor justice system). This research is justified by the concern that the indicators provided by the SmartLab Platform, because they rely structurally on formal labor records, are unable to adequately capture the forms of work and subsistence practiced by traditional Amazonian communities, whose livelihoods are generally not recorded in any of these official databases. Based on evidence collected during the Guaporé Valley Expedition (2025), organized by DHJUS/UNIR, the study investigated how the forms of work and subsistence of the Forte Príncipe da Beira Quilombola community, the Surpresa riverside community, and the Ricardo Franco Indigenous Village, all located along the Guaporé River in the state of Rondônia, relate to the ILO's Decent Work dimensions and to the SmartLab Platform indicators, as well as the limitations of this normative and informational framework in understanding the Amazonian reality. The study adopted a qualitative, applied research approach with exploratory, descriptive, and explanatory objectives, combining bibliographic research, documentary analysis, and participant observation, supported by thematic content analysis based on the dimensions of Decent Work. Its critical theoretical perspective draws on the works of Aparecida Zuin, Raffaele De Giorgi, Axel Honneth's Theory of Recognition, and José Geraldo de Sousa Junior's Theory of Law Found on the Streets, recognizing the labor practices of traditional communities as legitimate expressions of rights emerging from social practices. The findings indicate that, although the concept of Decent Work retains its normative relevance, it presents significant epistemological and operational limitations when applied to non-monetized economies, community reciprocity, and territory-based labor systems in the Amazon. These limitations are reproduced—and, to some extent, intensified—by the SmartLab Platform's data architecture, which relies on information sources that neither reach these populations nor capture intra-municipal differences between urban centers and traditional rural communities. As a technical product, this research proposes an Access to Justice Guide, structured around a Critical Glossary of Decent Work for Amazonian Communities, accompanied by a photographic album and a training course proposal for the 14th Regional Labour Prosecution Office (Rondônia/Acre). These products have the potential to support the SmartLab Platform itself in incorporating indicators that are more responsive to the realities of Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities.
