SUMMARY:

In 2022 alone, Brazil recorded more than 74 thousand disappearances of people. The numbers presented by the Brazilian Public Security Forum based on the consolidated records at police stations leave no room for doubt about the importance of the topic. In this context, we experience a generalization of causes and factors involving the phenomenon, in addition to the disturbing dimension of chaos related to data that compromise coping strategies. As the demographic breakdowns are carried out, the challenge becomes more evident: while the average rate of disappearances in Brazil is around 32 per 100 thousand, it reaches more than 311 per 100 thousand in Porto Velho/RO. Given the complexity of the process, which is subject to numerous variables, including cultural and economic ones, this work seeks to determine the dynamics of the event on the population of children and adolescents in the Capital of Rondônia, as well as the identification of the main reasons associated with the disappearances and which are often overlapped with socially known factors such as intra-family, sexual and genderbased violence, and which, equally, lack effective and lasting public policies in response. For the research to express the best possible framework of reality, the primary data matrix available in the Civil Police Integrated Report Registration System assigned to the Specialized Police Station for the Protection of Children and Adolescents of Porto Velho was used, allowing an opportunity unique to understand the implications of disappearance on this vulnerable population.
