SEASONALITY OF THE THERMAL FIELD OF THE CITY OF PORTO VELHO / RO, BRAZIL, BETWEEN 2017 TO 2018Rhythmic Analysis; Island of Atmospheric Heat; Mobile Transects.
The study of thematic field has gained increasing attention in Brazil, mainly due to an increasing of urbanization after the 1960s, and more recently the escalation of this process in mediumsized cities. Porto Velho, as a regional center, and due to developmental policies, experienced a growth and densification of its urban spot, especially after the beginning of the 21st century. Soon emerges the need of investigate the variation of air temperature in this city, continuously and seasonally, as well as its relationship with anthropogenic activities. The analysis method is a deductive type with substantiation in Rhythmic Analysis and on Monteiro Urban Climate System (1971). The research was divided into four work stages: a) Rhythmic Analysis of atmospheric systems during the seasons between September 2017 to October 2018; b) Mobile Transects for collection of air temperature from 8am to 9am, from 2pm to 3pm and from 8pm to 9pm during the same period of Rhythmic Analysis; c) the use of remote sensing in the acquisition and treatment of Landsat 8 (Operational Land Imager - OLI/ Thermal Infrared Sensor - TIRS) satellite images and obtaining surface temperature values in ºC and the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI); d) data treatment through descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The results of the climatic rhythm showed that in the "Amazonian winter", the most active atmospheric systems were: Equatorial Continental air mass (mEc), high of Bolivia, South Atlantic Convergence Zone, low level jets which added to the convections of the place, promoted the highest rates of rainfall, cloudiness and humidity. In the "Amazonian summer", the arrival of frontal systems was responsible for the sudden drop in humidity and air temperature together. The action of the Atlantic Tropical Mass (mTa) inhibited the clouds formation and resulted in greater solar radiation on urban objects. The months of April and October presented behaviour, respectively, similar to the "Amazonian winter" and the "Amazonian summer". In relation to spatial variation of the daily thermal field, monitored by the mobile transects, it was observed the existence of an atmospheric heat island of low to moderate intensity, in the morning this was concentrated in the eastern portion, in the afternoon, in most stations in the northwest, and in the evening a spread from northwest to southeast of Porto Velho city, state of Rondonia, with higher average air temperatures in the "Amazonian summer", between 35,0°C and 35,7°C. The correlation between air temperature and natural and anthropic factors, investigated by this research, revealed: the greater interdependence occurred with the relative air humidity; that the relationship with altitude was always very weak and, in most cases, not significant; that the anthropic variables had a more perceptible correlation in the nocturnal period of the "Amazonian summer", fact related to atmospheric systems performance, which in this season, caused the absence of cloudiness and, therefore, increase of irradiated heat used for the air warming. So, it is verified the existence of daily and seasonal thermal spatial variation related to the degrees of insolation and urban geo conditioners, which, in turn, are potentialized mainly by the atmospheric systems operating in the "Amazonian summer".
