RESUMO:

The general objective of this thesis is an analysis of how Haitian immigration to Brazil between 2010 and 2018 has expanded the Haitian transnational social space. The analysis of this process of expansion focuses on the itineraries of family networks and their strategies on the subjects’ mobility process,  the data collected by field research, the notion of transnational social space in this migration, the relevance of the principle of mutual aid in mobility and the collective values of mobility on the worldview generated by migration. The theoretical reference that underpins this thesis is the theory of transnationalism. The main social sites of the research were Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, complemented by observations in Santiago of Chile and twin cities of the triple borders Brazil-Bolivia-Peru. The central thesis lies on two pillars: 1) the family is a structuring element of Haitian mobility. 2) mobility is a structuring element of Haitian society. The results achieved by this research indicate that 1) Brazil became a baz (base) of Haitian migration, 2) with the insertion of Brazil; the Haitian transnational social space was expanded. The results still point to a process of expansion of this space on a regional scale, materialized by South America, with the interconnection of countries such as Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, and other spaces already reached by this mobility. The general discussion integrates historical elements that involve the formation of Haiti in the colonial and postcolonial periods, the formation of the transnational space, the role of the family and its sexual division of labor, the relationship between migration and remittances. From longitudinal and itinerant field research, the data is confronted with theoretical discussion and the history for a verification of the expansion of the Haitian transnational social space involving Brazil
