SUMMARY:

The research proposes an analysis of the time of concentration in the three main sub-basins of the Madeira River—Guapore, Mamore, and Beni—located upstream of Porto Velho (RO), responsible for approximately 97% of the water and sediment discharge of the main channel. Given the Madeira River's importance for navigation, energy generation, water supply, and the livelihood of riverside communities, understanding the hydrological response time to precipitation events is crucial for strategic planning and risk mitigation. The research is based on the hypothesis that each sub-basin exhibits distinct behaviors regarding time of concentration, conditioned by its physiographic and hydrogeomorphological characteristics. The investigation is based on precipitation data generated by satellites from the GPM mission during the dry season, and water level data obtained from the HIDROWEB and HIDROSAT platforms, coordinated by ANA. The study employs a qualitative, exploratory, and applied approach, utilizing remote sensing, hydrological modeling, and hydrograph analysis techniques. The methodology includes the validation of ten empirical time-of-concentration equations and the construction of isochrones using geoprocessing. The expected results are to improve hydrological forecasting and water resource management, providing technical support for public policies and early warnings of critical events. The research also contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, reinforcing the importance of environmental monitoring in the Amazon in the face of climate change and the scarcity of in-situ data.
