SUMMARY:

The Brazilian Legal Amazon possesses vast forest wealth and great economic importance for
the timber sector, historically marked by an extractive model with low added value and cycles
of predatory exploitation. The expansion of industrial centers from the 1980s onwards, driven
by policies of occupation and conversion of forests, resulted in intense processes of
deforestation and environmental degradation. The absence of institutional control and adequate
management practices aggravated the situation, culminating in the depletion of productive areas
and the migration of the timber frontier. In the state of Rondônia, this scenario is repeated with
its own characteristics, such as informality, low industrialization, and high waste generation. It
is estimated that only 40% of processed wood is effectively used, while the remainder becomes
waste such as sawdust, shavings, and wood chips, often discarded without treatment. In this
context, strategies based on the circular economy and bioeconomy gain relevance, promoting
the reuse of waste and adding value to previously neglected materials. Among sustainable
solutions, the production of cement-wood composites stands out, resulting from the
combination of Portland cement with lignocellulosic waste. These composites exhibit good
mechanical and thermal properties, in addition to being lightweight and low-cost, making them
suitable for use in civil construction. Applications of this type of material include sealing
blocks, lightweight roofing tiles, panels, and partitions, among others. Recent research has
expanded technical knowledge about these composites, exploring different proportions and
methods of particle preparation to optimize their performance. The utilization of these waste
materials therefore represents a viable alternative for the sustainable development of the
forestry and civil construction sectors in the Amazon region.
