Analysis of the time of concentration and distribution of isocrine lines in the Mamoré River Basin: implications for flood wave displacement.

This dissertation analyzes the time of concentration and the spatial distribution of isochrone lines in the Mamoré River basin, part of the Madeira-Amazon system, aiming to evaluate the applicability of empirical equations provided by the Brazilian National Hydrogeomorphological Atlas (AHGN) to Amazonian hydrological dynamics. The methodology integrated satellite-based precipitation data from the GPM mission (2014–2024), fluviometric records from the HIDROWEB platform, HIDROSAT virtual stations, and pluviometric data from SENAMHI, enabling the assessment of time lag between rainfall events and flood wave propagation to the basin outlet. Ten empirical time-of-concentration equations were compared, followed by the generation of isochrone maps using QGIS software. The results revealed significant differences between estimated and observed response times, highlighting limitations of some formulations when applied to large, low-gradient basins such as the Mamoré. Among the evaluated equations, Pasini showed the best performance, demonstrating greater consistency with observed travel times and producing isochrones more compatible with the spatial organization of the drainage network. It is concluded that the time of concentration in the study area is strongly influenced by geomorphological factors and river–floodplain interactions, representing a key parameter for hydrological monitoring, flood forecasting, and regional planning in the Amazon.
