SUMMARY:

Estimates of global fish production often mask the importance and representativeness of inland fisheries in relation to marine fisheries due to the magnitude of reported catches (marine catches are approximately seven times larger than inland catches. However, multiple lines Research studies (eg: consumption studies) suggest that inland fisheries are often unrecorded or drastically underreported, particularly with reference to the prevalence of artisanal or small-scale fisheries (ie subsistence and local trade) in inland waters. Reliable data on Amazon fisheries are currently scarce due to the lack of financial investment to carry out the studies as well as the management of the data. Thus, little is known about the situation of fish stocks in the region, since an analysis of the fishery status is limited by the scarcity of capture data. productivity linked to fisheries without governance and anthropogenic pressures puts fish stocks at risk and can lead to the loss of social and economic benefits associated with sustainable fishing yield. In this thesis, we intend to refine previous studies to focus on the stock of fish populations and seek indicators that allow to detect impacts and thus test the use of different indicators for the following hypothesis: “Limited fisheries data methods based on indexes ecosystems, in length, in capture, and in the participatory approach are not useful for assessing environmental stability, the health of fish stocks and the ecological status of habitats”. The methods with limited data had in common the use in PPEs, being those based on length the most used in 'developing countries'. To test this hypothesis, this qualification project is organized into 4 chapters, the first being the General Introduction and Theoretical Framework and then a chapter for each specific objective: Chapter 2: Identification of sustainability from ecosystem indicators of small-scale fisheries in the Madeira River in Porto Velho, Rondônia, Brazil, Chapter 3: Stock assessment of the main fishery resources with limited data from small-scale fisheries in the Madeira River, Rondônia, Brazil and Chapter 4: Combination of empirical indicators and stakeholder perception for monitoring fish stocks in a small-scale fishery with limited data.
