SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS IN THE AMAZON: A STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY IN AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE COURSES IN THE STATE OF RONDÔNIA

SUMMARY:

The development of the state of Rondônia caused numerous environmental problems such as deforestation caused by migrations that occurred in the territory. Policies were created with the aim of combating environmental deterioration, but they were not enough to combat it. Sustainable practices aimed at Agriculture have been studied and implemented as an alternative for sustainable development, but unfortunately adherence in the state of Rondônia is still low. Therefore, the objective of the research is to analyze Environmental Sustainability in the curricula of higher education and technical courses in Agricultural Sciences in the state of Rondônia, through the study of Curricular Environmentalization (AC). The methodology used was a qualitative-quantitative approach, using the following instruments to collect data: bibliographic research, documentary research and questionnaires. The bibliographical research was developed through the authors of curricular environmentalization and environmental sustainability in contextualizing the theme and analyzing the data. In the documentary research stage, 39 Curricular Matrices and 17 Subject Contents available in the Curricular Pedagogical Projects (PPC) were analyzed and 30 questionnaires were applied to agricultural science teachers at the Federal University of Rondônia (UNIR) and the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology (IFRO). Content Analysis (Bardin, 2007) was used as an analysis method and the Triangulation strategy was used to interpret the data. Regarding the analysis of AC in the curricular matrices, we concluded that the courses with the greatest presence are the Agronomy course-UNIR and the technician in Agroecology, with less environmentalization is the Veterinary Medicine-FARON with only one subject and the Technician in Zootechnics at SENAR which does not have environmentalized discipline. In the AC analysis of the content of the subjects, we can say that all courses present environmentalization, but the ones that stood out are Agronomy: Agronomy-IFRO campus Ariquemes with the largest quantity, followed by Agronomy-IFRO campus Colorado do Oeste and Agronomy-UNIR Rolim de Moura campus, the technical course that stands out with the greatest environmentalization is AgroecologyIFRO Cacoal campus. The results on the presence of environmental sustainability in agricultural science courses at UNIR and IFRO, and in view of the teachers' conception, indicate that the theme is present in the courses investigated, making it clear that the courses develop a sustainable bias in teaching and research projects. and extension. Teachers do their best to include environmental sustainability in their classes, but some report difficulties. In relation to the content of the subjects with environmental sustainability, the courses that stood out were Agronomy-UNIR and the technician in Agroecology-IFRO. In view of the above, it was identified that even though there is a presence of environmental sustainability in the institutions investigated, it is still necessary to strengthen public policies that contribute to the insertion of institutionalized and long-lasting actions. With the aim of strengthening the teaching of environmental sustainability, with a view to training qualified professionals for the implementation and monitoring of sustainable systems aimed at agriculture in the state of Rondônia.
