SUMMARY:

The research aimed to investigate the influence of social capital on the performance of schools in the state of Rondonia, based on a comparison of the results of the National High School Exam (ENEM). Based on the theories of Bourdieu (1986), Coleman (1988, 1990) and Putnam (1993), which highlight the importance of trust networks and social ties in the effectiveness of institutions, the study sought to understand whether social capital was associated with better learning rates. The methodology adopted was quantitative and descriptive-comparative, with the application of questionnaires in schools in the region and the analysis of data through statistical software. The research used the Integrated Questionnaire to Measure Social Capital (QI-MCS), developed by the World Bank, to assess interpersonal trust, community participation, social networks and social norms, focusing on how these aspects could impact school performance. The case study involved teachers, students and administrators of the selected schools, and a survey of the sociodemographic profile of the samples was carried out for better contextualization. The comparative analysis of ENEM results indicated that, although participation in groups or organizations did not show a strong correlation with exam scores, interaction with external groups and engagement in community activities demonstrated a significant impact on student performance. Schools with greater participation in community activities showed better academic performance, confirming the relevance of bridging social capital, characterized by external connections and access to new opportunities. In addition, it was observed that the perception of life change and confidence in one's own abilities also positively influenced results, especially in schools with higher performance. In short, the research concluded that social capital exerts a direct influence on student performance, highlighting the importance of social interactions and community participation for academic success.
