SUMMARY:

This study addresses the theme of wildlife risk management at Porto Velho Airport, in the state of Rondonia. It aims to understand the mechanisms and structures for preventing aviation-related incidents concerning this topic by identifying wildlife-attracting hotspots, with an emphasis on birds, within the urban area of the capital. Many of these bird-attracting sites are solid waste deposits resulting from improper disposal, posing risks not only to aviation but also directly impacting the health and quality of life of the population. Consequently, the study adheres to the notion that mitigating wildlife risks in aviation is correlated with public policies on citizenship, sustainable regional development, the regulated use and occupation of urban land, and improvements in basic sanitation and health indicators. The ongoing unregulated urban sprawl of Porto Velho within the Airport Safety Zone stems from the State's failure to address public issues affecting the community, such as urban cleaning, solid waste management, and the treatment of industrial and domestic sewage. The research aims to propose operational, administrative, and, most importantly, political solutions through the analysis of the legal compliance with actions provided for in existing legislation.
