EVALUATION OF THE IMPACTS OF URBANIZATION ON THE HYDRODYNAMICS OF A STRETCH OF THE PENHA CHANNEL IN PORTO VELHO/RO

Problems such as flooding and inundation in Brazilian cities are associated with the lack of planning for urban drainage, resulting from changes in land cover in watersheds during the process of urban development. In view of this, the present research aims to study the impact of urban interference in the Penha watershed, located in the municipality of Porto Velho, capital of the State of Rondônia. To this end, the modeling technique was used with the software SewerGEMS and Openflows FLOOD to create scenarios of system behavior for specific events, taking into account information collected in the field regarding the basin, geometry of the main channel, relief and rainfall data. The preliminary results demonstrated a certain insufficiency of the system, since the modeling identified flooding and overflow of the channel in areas near the connection point between the micro and macro drainage systems, and that the lack of maintenance of the urban drainage elements associated with the characteristics of the study region contributed significantly to the intensification of these problems.
