INFLUENCE OF EXPOSURE TO SUSPENSION PARTICULATE MATERIAL (MP 2.5) ON THE HEALTH OF ELDERLY

The increase in fires in the Brazilian Amazon produces pollutant emissions as a result of large-scale biomass burning. When considering that exposure to environmental pollutants can influence human health from conception and throughout the life cycle, it is possible to infer that one of their effects is the impact on reducing longevity. The study aims to evaluate the influence of suspended particulate matter of 2.5 micrograms per cubic meter on hospitalizations for respiratory diseases in elderly people in the municipalities of Porto Velho and Cacoal from 2020 to 2023. The collection of hospitalization data regarding respiratory diseases was carried out in the Hospital Information System in the public domain of the Ministry of Health. To assess the state of air quality, a concentration of particulate matter of 2.5 ug/m3 was collected from the low-cost Purple Air sensor located at coordinates UTM 20L 400361.43m E; 9032511.71m S. Datum SIRGAS 2000 (Public Ministry of the State of Rondônia), at UTM 20L 403250.29m E; 9036387.36m S. Datum SIRGAS 2000 (Residencial Jequitibá) and in UTM 20L 669738.035m E; 8734387.78m S. Datum SIRGAS 2000 (Duburalli Cheese Bread). In general, society, especially the populations most vulnerable to air pollution, face several problems, but the issue of damage to human health and the environment is undoubtedly one of the most important. Therefore, continuous monitoring of air quality and more effective inspection are essential to promote public health and environmental control.
