RESUMO:

The objective of this work was to evaluate the ingestive behavior and dry matter intake of Girolando heifers and suckling cows managed in different grazing situations. We used data from two experiments performed at Embrapa Rondônia. In the first experiment, a trial was carried out with eight 1/2 and 3/4 Holstein x Gir cows kept on pasture of Marandu grass (Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu) managed in intermittent stocking. It was used the 2x2 crossover design with two periods and two treatments: C - control = supplementation with ration without the inclusion of soybean oil (n = 4) and OS - soybean oil = feed supplementation with 7% soybean oil (in the dry matter) (n = 4). Each period comprised 10 days of adaptation, followed by 10 days for data collection, totaling 40 days of experiment. In the second experiment, a 2x2 crossover design with two periods and two systems was carried out: integration of Crops-Livestock (ICL) and Forest (ICLF), using eight heifers 3/4 Holstein x 1/4 Gir. Each period comprised 10 days of adaptation, followed by 20 days for data collection, totaling 60 days of experiment. The heifers were kept in Xaraés grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraés) pasture managed in intermittent stocking. The ICLF system was shaded by eucalyptus trees planted in rows, allowing 65% crown coverage. In both experiments, the parameters of ingestive behavior were obtained by the evaluation of bioacoustic data, by audio recorders for 48h. It was also estimated the dry matter intake (DMI) to grazing of the animals in both experiments, based on the relation between the estimated daily fecal production with the external indicator LIPE® and the in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) of the diet. The data were submitted to analysis of variance by the MIXED of the SAS and the means compared by the Tukey-Kramer test at 5% of significance. In the experiment one did not observe differences in the variables of ingestive behavior and in the CMS of lactating cows. The patterns of ingestive behavior of heifers in the experiment two varied according to the structural characteristics of the pasture. Lactating cows perform a smaller number of mouthfuls during the day when they are supplemented and heifers kept in a shaded pasture make changes in the ingestive behavior in order to keep the DMI constant.
