SUMMARY:

This research adopted the methodology developed by Vasconcelos and Souza (2010) who constructed the Participatory Municipal Sustainable Development Index (IDSMP), which in this case calculates the IDSRP for the Northern region of Brazil, with the innovation of being able to use it to compare the results of the states and thus offer the possibility of proposing specific improvements, through the analysis of indicators, to the State of Rondônia. This is a qualitative and explanatory study. In the data collection phase, the results of 32 sustainability indicators were collected from all states in the country, 4 on the cultural dimension, 13 on the social dimension, 04 on the demographic dimension, 03 dealing with the institutional political dimension, 03 deal with the environmental dimension and 05 with the economic dimension. Subsequently, according to the method adopted, the best and worst results will be observed as a parameter to analyze the result under study. It is imperative to highlight that the result of this index is between numbers 0 and 1, with the lowest level of sustainability being found in result 0 and the highest being 1. As a result, the State of Rondônia came in first place with 0.501, followed by Tocantins (0.491), Amazonas (0.460), Amapá (0.421), Roraima (0.414) and Acre (0.414), therefore, all being in a state of Sustainability Alert. Given the results of the States on alert, it was obtained, as an inevitable consequence, that the Northern region of Brazil presented itself in the same condition, with a sustainability result of 0.439.
