SUMMARY:

The context of family-based agriculture in Porto Velho, Rondônia, reveals its economic and ecological importance, although the lack of planning and management has led to adverse impacts, such as soil degradation and deforestation. These consequences not only affect the environment, but also have significant socio-environmental implications, compromising the well-being of local communities and regional biodiversity. Understanding these dynamics is vital to guide sustainable management strategies and effective public policies. Family farming, central to the local economy, faces challenges such as limited access to resources and pressure from agribusinesses. Brazilian environmental legislation offers guidelines, however its effectiveness in protecting preserved areas. The proposed research aims to investigate this relationship, analyze causes of degradation, evaluate compliance with legislation and propose improvement measures, using a mixed approach that combines qualitative and quantitative methods. The objective is to contribute to more sustainable policies and effective environmental management, recognizing the crucial importance of the Amazon for Brazil and the world.
