SUMMARY:

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) consists of electronic equipment and/or
components of these devices that are no longer useful to the user, posing a threat to humans and
the environment due to the toxic substances present in these devices. Brazil is the largest generator
of WEEE in South America and the fifth largest in the world, with 2.4 million tons generated in
2022, and lacks a Reverse Logistics System (RLS) to provide adequate disposal for this material.
In this context, this research aims to evaluate the difficulties encountered in applying reverse
logistics for WEEE in the northern region, so that this material returns to the manufacturer or is
transformed into raw material to be reused in the manufacture of other products. This research is
characterized as an exploratory bibliographic research, and its objective is to identify the
difficulties in implementing reverse logistics for waste electrical and electronic equipment in the
Northern Region. Therefore, a bibliographic exploration will be carried out, considering
publications on the National Solid Waste Policy – PNRS, Reverse Logistics, WEEE disposal, and
Life Cycle Assessment – LCA, including articles in national and international databases,
dissertations, theses, and books dealing with the topic of WEEE, as well as legislation applied in
some countries, to evaluate best practices and propose a model for the northern region of Brazil.
