Agricultural colonization policies and encouragement of inter-regional migration in the Amazon impacted the transformation of the territory in Rondonia, especially in the municipality of Urupa. Under State management, these measures were planned to boost the occupation and development of the region, exploring its agricultural and economic potential. This generated an increase in migratory flows to the area, directly influencing the socio-spatial formation of the region and the diversification of economic activities. The objective of the research was to describe the socio-spatial transformations in Urupa, relating them to the economic activities resulting from the process of colonization and deforestation in the region. The implemented occupation policies, the form of occupation of the territory and its implications for economic activities, in addition to its relationship with the environment, were problematized. The analysis was based on social and economic indicators from IBGE, using the Socio-Spatial Formation category to understand the historical processes, the formation of the territory and the socioenvironmental and economic transformations of Urupa. The research, of an exploratory and descriptive nature, with a qualitative approach, included participant observation, bibliographical research and semi-structured interviews with longtime residents, migrants and farmers. Documents, photographs, images and maps were analyzed to understand the socio-spatial formation of the territory to the present day. An intense change in the landscape stands out, in terms of population, land use and forest cover, reflecting historical, social and economic dynamics that shaped Urupa over time.
