SUMMARY:

Given its potential in terms of natural resources, the Amazon region has aroused the interest of various countries in the use and management of these resources, as has been seen with the construction and installation of major projects. Hydroelectric power plants are examples of these projects present in the region, as are mining companies, settlement programs, gold mines and others. In the state of Para, many of these projects have been implemented, such as the Tucurui Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), the first hydroelectric power plant to be built in the state, in the municipality of the same name, located in the southeast of Para, which is one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in Brazil and the world. However, many negative consequences have arisen from this grandiose project, such as environmental impacts that have affected the fauna and flora of the areas surrounding the dam. In this way, the work analyzes the period between 1984 and 2024, a timeframe defined from the completion of construction and the start of operation of the Tucurui HPP to the present day, where the actions corresponding to the energy project have changed the socio-territorial dynamics of the Vila de Pederneiras quilombola community. The general objective of the research is to analyze, within the time frame between 1984 and 2024, the presence of the Tucurui HPP and its elements of functionality, which have modified the territorial and socio-economic dynamics of Vila de Pederneiras through the lens of Social Cartography. The specific objectives seek to: a) Present the historical-geographical facts within the temporality and scale that helped to make up the village of Pederneiras; b) Identify the socio-economic changes in the community over the defined time; c) Understand the transformative processes in the village of Pederneiras resulting from the implementation of the Tucurui HPP through the prism of Social Cartography. Thus, the category of territory analysis allows us to understand how the hydroelectric plant influences the power relations exercised over the village of Pederneiras, stemming from interests that go beyond the local scale, with dimensions that go beyond the Amazon scale. Therefore, the research used the historical-dialectical method with a quantitative and qualitative approach to the data collected, such as documentary research on the Tucurui HPP and field research. The results show, with the contribution of the social cartography used and the recovery of memories and information, that there have been alterations, as well as changes arising from the territorialization process and the residents' way of life. Finally, the research demonstrates through existing and collected data how the construction and operation of the Tucurui HPP has impacted the socio-territorial relations of the families of Vila de Pederneiras, whose research results aim to contribute to discussions about the effects produced by energy expansion, based on government actions surrounding these hydroelectric projects.
