SUMMARY:

This work proposed to analyse how the guiding documents (Law 9394-LDB, 1996; PCNs, 1998 and BNCC, 2018) of the Brazilian educational system present the theme of radiation in the teaching of Sciences in elementary school II. In addition, it sought elements that provided evidence of how the introduction of radiation in science teaching happens. Its development followed the steps of a systematic literature review, aiming to identify, select and critically evaluate primary studies related to the research topic. The data obtained revealed that there were significant advances related to the theme of radiation, when analysing what guided the PCNs and what, today, guides the BNCC. However, it is emphasized that much still needs to be done so that science teaching brings the radiation theme to be addressed in elementary school with a logical sequence of information, with interconnection to other proposed contents and without superficiality. With this study, it is possible to affirm that science teaching – in elementary school – with regard to radiation, does not include actions that aim to encourage society to know about radiation, its applications, its risks and benefits.
