SUMMARY:

It is estimated that Brazilian students do not have access to training of an environmental nature. This work is evaluating student perception through the application of a multiple-choice questionnaire. The research is being carried out at the State High School Professor João Bento da Costa, located in the city of Porto Velho. Perceptions and habits regarding the use of natural resources were verified, with a focus on supply water, for this, approval was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rondônia. The study began with the presentation of the work and the delivery of terms to the students. After returning the correctly signed terms, the access link to the questionnaire was sent via WhatsApp and/or email, which was made available online through the Google forms platform. Student participation is voluntary. The data evaluated for the qualification were downloaded on September 5, 2022, totaling 393 correctly completed questionnaires, however, the study is still in progress. The methodology used for the analysis starts initially by converting the city's neighborhoods into zones, based on the organization used by the City Hall. Then, the data were analyzed by groups of younger and older students, and also between students of the regular modality and youth and adult education (EJA). The groups were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that there were no significant differences between the groups analyzed. In order to stimulate environmental awareness as a way of giving back to society, an elective course of Environmental Education in the study area is being implemented, with weekly meetings scheduled to take place throughout the 2nd semester of 2022. It is expected that the elective will generate impacts positive aspects in the lives of young people, making them citizens committed to the conservation and use of natural resources.
